The punks flaunt fashion as a statement. The models display fashion according to seasons. To the fashionable fashion is their ‘thing’. Some stick to fashion as a necessity while I regard fashion based on my comfortability –well, not necessarily true when I rather wear 4 inches of electric blue coloured pumps than to have my feet free from the pain. I am not a fashion victim – as I still have my sanity – but I follow fashion according to my mood. Sometimes I do agree with ‘beauty is pain’ but that phrase does not fit every occasion.
My ‘fashion’ is getting to wear jeans, t-shirt and Vans sneakers. I also love getting to wear bright coloured dress with my flats. There would be a day when I look just right and of course there also would be a day when I would look like a freak demanding for a make-over walking down the street. But those combinations have never failed to make me feel like myself.
You see, to me fashion is not about having the hottest dress for the season, or the latest handbag by Gucci or even making a statement like “I listen to punk” but it’s about making you feel good of yourself. Shh… to them if wearing that polka dots shirt makes you feel good. Shh… to them if wearing that yellow dress that burns people eyes makes you feel good. It is not about how you look, it is about how you feel that matters most. If you feel good, then you will look good and it goes the other way round when you feel bad about yourself.
Fashion too is not about having the perfect dress, the perfect tops or even the perfect shoes. Fashion is about how you wear it. Even a perfect yellow dress can go wrong if you pair it with a pair of electric blue pumps, and have lack of confidence wearing it. Get creative people! Make your own fashion rather than just follow what the Greater Force – those amazingly creative people who dare to use their own idea in inventing new fashions – want us to follow. I mean, can you imagine 10 years ahead, you would be looking at your old pictures and start to classify five different eras representing eras of different fashions. That would be funny!
So people, why not we start to change or at least try to change. Stop splurging on that RM 500 dress that you would be stuffing inside your closet the next season just because it is the ‘in’ thing for this month. Stop saying “I would look good in that dress,” and start saying “That dress will look good on me!” Think positive people, and think creative. Fashion is not about looking just good, but it is about feeling good too!
